It is difficult to choose one favorite among so many favorites, but on this day at this hour, if my back were against the wall, I’d choose Shiloh (1992) by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. I admire its purity and poignancy and Naylor’s skill in rendering complexity
with seeming simplicity…and the dog lives. No small feat, that.
