Sylvia designed many of my books and I always was delighted by the design and the fonts she used. She's just great!

Gosh, you are right. Can you see the egg on my face? What is that on the cover -- Gotham Black? I noticed the same mistake in the documentary "Helvetica" -- their examples included some type that was not Helvetica but had angled cuts on c, e, s, etc.

Funny: the cover of the book “Freight Train” does not in fact show Helvetica at all. Yes, Helvetica is used for the interior text, but not on the cover. Look especially at the letters e, C and s on the cover, versus Helvetica.

And most designers would shout: DO NOT TRY TO DESIGN USING MICROSOFT WORD . . . it's a word processing application. I've had to design several newsletters in Word and it's like pulling teeth.

What's weird is how some type faces translate strangely when pixilated as a font. Try Futura light in 12 points on a Microsoft Word program, for instance. I believe that's why the font Arial was invented. Great piece.

Speaking as a former Children's Book Art Director, most designers and editors know that type on a page becomes an element of the illustration. When an art sample came in, we chose a font and size that worked with the art. A set of type galleys were handed to the artist so that when they were in sketch stage, they would know just how much room the type would take on a page or spread. No one wanted to see type placed on top of art . . . they had to work in concert with each other. The fun came when artists would cut up the lines of type to play with the illustration, sometimes enlarging or reducing a word for emphasis.
