LOVE me some Extra Yarn! I am hopeful Klassen comes out with some formal award from ALA on Monday. His illustrations are perfectly expressive and detailed; they’re neither over- nor under-done. Having shared both with children ages 3-10, I have seen how much joy they get from both his 2012 offerings.

Extra Yarn is my favorite this year, too. And I also adore Z is for Moose. Great choices.

Yeah for Extra Yarn !!! I am not surprised but I also think Z is for Moose is quite original too. All the books are amazing! I like Extra Yarn because the story’s simplicity and depth is totally matched with John Klassen’s truly original illustration style. Just enough, no more, no less, just so much fun to read. John Klassen’s work demonstrates the beauty of a limited color palette as well, which I love.
