Actually, should you even be here?

Is reading on the web going to destroy our children's ability to read books? Does it matter? Here's an excellent article on those questions.

Have you noticed how much the web likes to talk about itself? That's what I find worrying!

Yes, well the web is getting quite self- absorbed.

Slightly off-topic but: what about that musical version of LITTLE HOUSE scheduled for Broadway? See today's NYT!

Random links and disjointed conversation are perfectly on topic, anonymous. Consider your point well taken.

I've seen a lot of blogging about this article, but one thing in the article that really struck me but that no one really mentioned yet is the idea of Teaching Internet Reading. In the article people are quoted as brushing it off, the "we don't need to teach kids how to write text messages, they figure it out themselves." Of course we don't need to teach kids how to text! But we need to teach kids-- and adults too-- how to evaluate the stuff they FIND on the Internet! That's a hugely important skill that will only get more important over time! ...And also, I once used the tree octopus site in a web evaluation lesson for middle schoolers, too! I had to laugh when I saw I wasn't alone....
