Lesley’s Evelyn M. Finnegan Children’s Literature Lecture Series presents author and illustrator Steve Jenkins. The lecture is free and open to the public; please pre-register.
Steve Jenkins has written and illustrated thirty picture books for young readers, including the Caldecott Honor-winning What Do You Do with a Tail Like This? His children’s book illustrations are instantly recognizable and endlessly fascinating. Working in cut paper collage, Jenkins finds ways to represent the diversity and textures of the natural world with a level of detail and dimension that defy expectations for what is possible in this medium. Many of Jenkins’ books are available in Lesley’s Sherrill Library, and a selection will be on sale in the Margaret A. McKenna Student Center before his lecture.
Lesley University’s outstanding children’s literature collection is named in honor of children’s book author Evelyn M. Finnegan, Lesley Class of 1948, in recognition of her family’s philanthropic support. This lecture series is funded by the collection’s permanent endowment in conjunction with Sherrill Library and the Graduate School of Education’s Language and Literacy Division.
