Welcome back!

As you can see from the byline, it's a new season here at Calling Caldecott, in more ways than one. Yes, we will have three co-authors this year! with Julie Hakim Azzam and Kitty Flynn joining the CC team.

Julie has been a Horn Book contributor (to the magazine and the Family Reading blog) since 2016 and a HB reviewer since 2017. We are VERY lucky to have her co-helming Calling Caldecott. This brief bio gives you an idea: she is the assistant director of the MFA program in the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University and has a PhD in literary and cultural studies, with a specialization in contemporary postcolonial literature from Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Kitty, a Horn Book mainstay and fount of knowledge, is now reviews editor of the Horn Book (wooot!). She might be working mostly behind the scenes this year for Calling Caldecott, but believe me, she puts in the work, and we couldn't do it without her.

So, let the games begin! We are in the process of building the list of eligible 2023 picture books we hope to cover this fall and early winter, and are excited to share it with you in the coming days.

Look for a few posts in the interim as we gear up for another season of talking about our favorite subject, picture books. And welcome back!

Oh, Horn Book, what I wouldn't do for you, including posing for goofy photos like this with mountains of books! Super excited to be on board with Calling Caldecott this year! Looking forward to the conversation with you all.
