Illustrated by Gérard DuBois. In this biography of Marcel Marceau (alter-ego, mime Bip), declarative sentences artfully capture the performer’s essence. The emphasis is on Marceau as an artist, but Schubert doesn’t shy away from his persecution as a Jew during the Holocaust and his involvement in Nazi resistance. DuBois’s vigorous illustrations strikingly cast Marceau as a mostly white figure against black backgrounds. An afterword and miming tips are appended. Reading list.
