Does your summer read have a cover Girl? I’ve noticed quite a few hit grownup books have female protagonists — and familiar-sounding titles.
The Girls Who Started It All:









(Trisha — The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon — and Melanie — The Girl with All the Gifts — are the only two of these female protagonists who are still girls, but I guess The Woman Who… just doesn’t have the same ring to it. Also: the patriarchy.) Now a new generation of Girls is coming up in books for children and teens.

Makes sense to me that girls and women would be confronting villains and bullies, time-traveling, doing magic, and generally kicking ass and taking names in books across a range of genres and intended audiences. After all, you know what Queen Bey says about who runs the world.
