Fiete Hide and Seek app review

fiete hide and seek titleFriendly sailor Fiete invites you to play a favorite childhood game in Fiete Hide and Seek (Ahoiii, April 2017; iOS only).

Tap on rocks and plants in a range of landscapes to look for Fiete behind them. If you’re stumped, tap the dog icon at bottom right to whistle for a pup who will help sniff out Fiete. But the app is just as much about finding hiding animals as Fiete himself; the foliage and rocks also conceal a fox, bear, raccoon, tiger, meerkat, etc. There are more than forty different types of animals to find, dependent(ish) on the on the habitat you’re exploring, as well as eggs to hatch scattered throughout. (Given that the app launched this week — the week leading up to Easter — these eggs are currently patterned Easter eggs, but will be de-decorated in updates after the holiday.)

For maximum hide-and-seek-ing, make sure not to tap on Fiete, even if you’ve found him, until you’ve checked all possible hiding places for critters. He’ll wait amiably with his hands over his eyes until you’re ready to move on to the next screen.

This latest Fiete app displays all the characteristics of the series: appealing human and animal characters; cut-paper-style illustrations featuring bright colors and interesting textures; lively music and sound effects; and wordless gameplay.

Available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch (requires iOS 7.0 or later); $1.99. Recommended for preschool users.
