Black History Month 2020

On the historic heels of the 2020 Newbery and Caldecott medals going to the same African American winners of the CSK Author and Illustrator Awards at the ALA Youth Media Awards on January 27th, it's time for our annual commemoration of Black History Month (see HBBlackHistoryMonth16, HBBlackHistoryMonth17, HBBlackHistoryMonth18, and HBBlackHistoryMonth19). We'll be featuring articles, speeches, and reviews from The Horn Book archive that are by and/or about African American authors, illustrators, and luminaries in the field — one a weekday through the month of February, with a roundup on Fridays. Look for the social media tag #HBBlackHistoryMonth on Facebook.com/TheHornBook and @HornBook. Also follow The Brown Bookshelf's "28 Days Later" initiative ("designed to celebrate Black children’s book creators and raise awareness of those who may be under the radar of librarians, educators and families"), beginning here and on Twitter @brownbookshelf.
