From the Editor - August 2021

Notwithstanding COVID-19 and its restrictions, I hope all kids this year will still get some semblance of a First Day of School. They all deserve it. Hell, we all deserve it, a day for reset, reinvention, renewal. (And anxiety, of course, but that seems like everybody’s default setting already anyway.) In addition to this “super-sized” Back-to-School edition of Notes, for some smart talk about getting children ready for a good First Day and, hopefully, a good school year, listen to Elissa Gershowitz and Dr. Kim Parker over on HBTV sharing research and swapping anecdotes about getting kids engaged with literacy, showing them, in Kim’s words, that “reading is great and writing is great…and they should do it.” That also goes for you all, too.
