Newbery centennial roundup

All summer we've been celebrating the Newbery Award with our May/June Horn Book Magazine special issue dedicated to the Newbery centennial (featuring this amazing Newbery cover by honoree Grace Lin), plus our annual July/August ALA Awards special issue, which featured "The Year in Words and Pictures—and Stories" along with the acceptance speech and profile (by Martha Brockenbrough) of this year's Newbery winner, Donna Barba Higuera.

Additional Newbery resources abound from the Horn Book so, to cap off our coverage this year, below you'll find a compilation of Newbery speeches, profiles, articles, interviews, reviews, and more from the past decade on our website. For even more Newbery history, seek out old back issues of the print Magazine in your school or local library, particularly the issues containing ALA speeches and profiles: they're all fascinating reads. Also fascinating: reading the award-winning books themselves. One of my friends from Simmons challenged her two children to read as many Newbery winners and honor books as possible this summer and they rose to the occasion (one has read twenty three and the other eighteen...and they're still going!). How many have you read?

Cheers to the award and to one hundred more years of distinguished literature for children.
