How's everyone's school year going so far? Almost three weeks in, my kids -- who'd been remote for 1.5 years, who can believe it?! -- are thrilled to be physically around (but not too close to) their friends (even as I worry...). Don't forget to check in with the teachers and other school workers to see how they're coping.
In case you missed it, check out our Back to School lists for all ages: picture books, chapter books, primary and intermediate nonfiction, books for middle-grade and middle school, graphic novels and graphic memoirs, and YA, with bonus Five Questions for Emily Jenkins; and watch Episode 3 of HBTV with Dr. Kim Parker.
My son's class read Jason Reynolds's Look Both Ways over the summer and are now starting to discuss it. Reynolds was recently named to a third term as National Ambassador for Young People's Literature; and if you haven't yet read his Zena Sutherland Lecture from the September/October Horn Book Magazine, this may be a drop-everything moment. I promise, it won't feel like homework.
