In my house, baseball season never really ends, and September, with its lead-up to the MLB playoffs, is clutch. Sunday, September 15, was the annual celebration of Roberto Clemente Day — all players wear #21 — and the start of National Hispanic Heritage Latine/x Heritage Month (September 15–October 15). What better time to ask Five Questions of the author/illustrator team behind Call Me Roberto!: Roberto Clemente Goes to Bat for Latinos, starred in the September/October 2024 Horn Book Magazine?

September also brings a much-anticipated event: receipt of the 2024 Mentor Award at the Carle Honors Gala on the 26th. We’re absolutely thrilled and so grateful; the Horn Book goes glam!
