Catching up

The Boston Globe-Horn Book Award announcement at BEA this past weekend reminded me that I’ve been remiss posting links to noteworthy picture books featured in our Wednesday Review of the Week. Over the next few days I’ll post links to all the RotW picture books since January, but for today I’d like to celebrate the BGHB selections, particularly the picture books. Great job, judges!

Congratulations to Jonathan Bean on his second win. I was happy to be on the BGHB committee back in 2008 when he won for At Night. Now he’s going to get another silver bowl for Building a House. I was less familiar with the two honor books so am playing catch up now. They are Open This Little Book by Jesse Klausmeier, illustrated by Suzy Lee; and Black Dog by Levi Pinfold.

Here’s a link to the official announcement page, and here is the page with reviews of the picture book winner and honor books.
