On the Radar

Herewith a few tantalizing covers for anyone who is looking forward with anticipation to this year’s Caldecott crop — I know these illustrators’ names are on all your radars…

The cover of the Julie Fogliano/Christian Robinson book draws us in with its unusual shape and the childlike simplicity of its type and image; the cover of the Cynthia Rylant/Brendan Wenzel book draws us in with its deep colors and sense of mysteries about to be revealed; the Michael Mahin/Evan Turk cover with its bold shapes and colors (and, like Life, its large and eye-catching title). I’m looking forward to examining all three books in more depth, later in the Caldecott season.
