Review Copies

Both The Horn Book Magazine, a bimonthly publication, and The Horn Book Guide, a semiannual publication, review children’s and young adult books that are published in the United States. The Horn Book Magazine also reviews audiobooks. Publishers should send two copies of appropriate new titles in advance of publication date (preferably three months) to: Book Reviews, The Horn Book, Inc., 300 The Fenway, Palace Road Building, Suite P-311, Boston, MA 02115. Submissions must be accompanied by a notice with complete publication information, including price, publication date, and ISBN. Horn Book editors determine whether, when, and in which publication the reviews appear.

The Magazine reviews books very selectively, approximately eighty titles an issue, and generally considers titles notable for high standards in plot, theme, characterization, and style. Board books and original paperbacks are occasionally reviewed.

The Guide reviews books more comprehensively, with each issue containing brief, critical appraisals of more than 2,000 hardcover titles. Books produced by publishers that are not listed in Literary Market Place are not considered. Each issue reviews titles published in the previous six months: titles published between January 1st and June 30th appear in the fall issue; those published between July 1st and December 31st appear in the spring issue.
