Horn Book at Simmons Colloquium:
Mind the Gaps
Saturday, October 11, 2014
8:30 am – 4:00 pm
The pursuit of the next Harry Potter and Hunger Games has homogenized bestsellers lists; there are still too few books for reluctant readers; and the number of nonfiction titles has steadily declined. And yet, with thousands of books published for young readers every year, there are myriad opportunities to honor a culturally, economically, and racially diverse spectrum of readers… if you mind the gaps.
The 2014 Horn Book at Simmons Colloquium, MIND THE GAPS, will take a hard look at the current state of publishing and what’s missing in children’s literature. More importantly, it will provide guidance, insights, and tools to help you fill these gaps to effectively serve all of your young readers. Additionally, we’ll get personal with the Boston Globe–Horn Book award recipients as we take a close look inside their work.
NOTE: Registration for the 2014 Horn Book at Simmons Colloquium includes admittance to The Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards Ceremony on Friday, October 10 — a special evening of captivating acceptance speeches, followed by a lively reception, and book signings.
