No kind of about it, it is truly adorable.
Maurice and a Wild Thing, yes?
Yes--I think what I love is the supremely multi-numinous expression on Sendak's face.
Oh thank you! A recent pic, I assume?
Roger, are you going soft? Adorable?
my hero
best. book. ever. period.
Is it just me, or does Maurice look really good? Spry even?
Sweet. Who took the photo? I like the way one horn seems to be growing out of Sendak's head.
Heh. He's a wild thing too.
Made me think of the little animation Jon Agee fixed up for the Reading Reptile bookstore. Here's the link:

Sendak is numerously luminously numinous but I'm not seeing what you see in the expression. It looks more to me like someone has crazy glued his sideburn to a wild thing and he is finding it vaguely perturbing. Still, we should all look so good crazy glued to a wild thing.
And, might I add, Mr. Sendak, that Max's dinner isn't the only thing that is still hot.
Looks to me like a gentleman farmer posing with his cash cow.
I don't care WHAT 'cha all say...it's adorable, ADORABLE!
