I keep Rules of the Road on my YA syllabus because it's a novel in which work is important to the protagonist. The first time I taught it, I asked my students what sorts of jobs they had as teens and whether they learned anything interesting or important from that experience. They had a lot to say on this topic (and convinced me I should push my son to get a summer job).
Interesting article by J. Lepore in this week's NewYorker on STUART LITTLE ( and audio conversation with R. Angell). But why now? Seems like old news.
I wonder if anyone in the "community" will bother to read and comment?
yes, why now? maybe the "community" will rally round???
