Maybe it's all the Ayn Rand I read in high school
but I find these landscapes immensely comforting. They remind me of a night drive Anne Quirk and I had back from Galveston to Houston, through some fairyland of lights and probably toxic gases.

I remember when the flares were all different colors. It was really pretty when you drove across the Mississippi River bridge towards Baton Rouge. There are just a few flares now and they are a safe, non-toxic blue. Tame fire.
I grew up in Baton Rouge. We toured the Esso refinery in elementary school.
