I've been the editor in chief of The Horn Book, Inc, since 1996; previously editor of The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books and a children's and young adult librarian. Received my M.A. in library science from the University of Chicago in 1982 and a B.A. from Pitzer College in 1978.

I love this list; thank you, Claire. I don't have as much time to keep up with children's lit. these days, and I can count on the Horn Book to choose the more interesting books. I will bring several of these titles with me to elementary schools when I'm promoting our public library's summer reading club. Really a life saver for me.
