*Before 2003, with a couple of early exceptions,
the date of the Fanfare list indicates the year the Horn
Book Magazine published the list. But starting in 2003,
the date of the Fanfare list indicates the year the books
were published. Consequently, we have two 2002 Fanfare lists:
the first, which appeared in our January/February 2002 issue,
recognizes books published in 2001; the second, which appeared
in our January/February 2003 issue, recognizes books published
in 2002.
