Philip Pullman
and His Dark Materials

"The Compass Will Show the Way," promises an ad for this season's most anticipated blockbuster, but The Horn Book has been pointing readers in the direction of Philip Pullman's ambitious His Dark Materials trilogy since the first volume was published in the U.S. in 1996. Our reviews of the books can be found below, along with Claire Gross’s review of the The Golden Compass film adaptation, and the novelist's own iconoclastic vision of the Republic of Heaven. Fans and foes of the series are represented here as well, but we're giving the last word to Roger Sutton and Philip Pullman. Don't miss their podcast.
