Correct us if we’re wrong, but we thought this year’s Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards and Horn Book at Simmons Colloquium: Transformations was fab! Engaging, thought-provoking, heart-tugging, funny — the eloquent speeches (to be published in the January/February 2016 Horn Book Magazine), panel discussions, breakout sessions, and casual conversations left attendees transformed.

Susan Cooper’s caterpillar-to-butterfly soup. The evolution of Candace Fleming’s The Romanovs (complete with pages and pages and pages of editorial and expert commentary). The thirty-two drafts that shaped Jacqueline Woodson’s stunning Brown Girl Dreaming. A title change for Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms. Jon Agee’s lovesick canine. Knud Pedersen: from mischief-making schoolboy to bona fide hero. Oliver Jeffers’s alphabet book for people who don’t yet know their alphabet. Gregory Maguire: “Baba Yaga, c’est moi.” Roger’s therapy session brought to you by The Farmer and the Clown. The Shustermans’ personal and literary odyssey. All are transformative to a T.
