Lonely Little In-between

Patty Duke in BILLIE

My work-reading this weekend shuttled between The Book of Dust and Turtles All the Way Down, just three old cerebral white guys shooting the shit, yep. I'm liking them both, but we'll see what Martha and her minions have to say about each in the January issue.

My playtime reading shuttled between The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye and Kristin Lavransdatter. Essay topic: Could They Be Friends? The Girl is making me think again that author David Lagercrantz, who also wrote the first post-post mortem Girl, The Girl in the Spider's Web, is a better--crisper--writer than Stieg Larsson, but Larsson of course invented everybody. Kristin is anything but crisp, that's for sure, and while I'm having a good enough time with it I'm wondering when I'm going to get to the Nobel Prize-winning part.

All in all, four good companions for the weekend.

There was a nice interview with a very animated Lagercrantz on the PBS Newshour last night, fyi.

The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye also has less sandwiches. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it --- definitely crispy.
