He was previously editor of The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books and a children's and young adult librarian. He received his MA in library science from the University of Chicago in 1982 and a BA from Pitzer College in 1978.

>I did the same trip along with Jane Dyer and Diane DeGroat in 2005, invited by Bandana Sen, the librarian at the time, (talent and poise must not have been the main criteria back then, or else Jane and Diane had enough for the 3 of us) and it was every bit as wonderful as Linda describes. Definitely a high point in my life as a childrens book writer.
