Beverly Cleary 1916-2021

Beloved children's author Beverly Cleary has passed away, at the age of 104. To celebrate the occasion of her centennial, on April 12, 2016, The Horn Book Magazine's March/April issue devoted a series of articles to "Beverly Cleary at 100."

See also this wonderful exchange:

  • Paul O. Zelinsky, illustrator of Cleary's Newbery Medal-winning Dear Mr. Henshaw, gets schooled: "Dear Mr. Zelinsky": "Our class would like to know why you drew people smoking."

And for Ramona super-fans, The Art of Ramona Quimby: Sixty Five Years of Illustrations from Beverly Cleary's Beloved Books by Anna Katz "will be catnip (hi, Picky-picky)." Full obituary to come in an upcoming Horn Book Magazine.

ART: Lolly Robinson.
