Also, have a look at A. O. Scott's essay about why the world needs movie reviewers. I don't think he makes his case, but the tap-dancing around it is entertaining.

I don't have the visual retention skills to be a movie critic, but I do recommend The Devil Wears Prada for Meryl Streep's surprisingly unactressy portrayal of the big bad boss, and it's a helluva improvement on the book.

>If a book is reviewed in the Horn Book Magazine, a copy of that review will be sent to the publisher prior to publication. The Magazine aims to review within a month or two of publication, and books from the previous year are reviewed no later than March of the current year.

I'm guessing that your publisher is talking about a review in the Horn Book Guide. The semiannual Guide aims to review all hardcover books published within a six-month period (thus the Fall 06 Guide reviews books published from Jan-June of this year) but there are usually some books left over from the previous season.

>Roger, can I ask a Horn Book question? My publisher just told me they heard there will be a review of my last book in the Horn Book this fall. I was very surprised--and pleased!--because it came out LAST fall (2005), and I thought only the current season's books got reviewed, and if you didn't get one that first season, that was that. I take it I was wrong?

>My husband and I like to chew up tatty B science fiction films we've seen before when we get really, REALLY bored with what's out there...

Perhaps the world need more of these?

A website that reviews the movie critics...

Will look out for the Streep film, though. Love to watch her.

>I agree with your assessment of Devil- Meryl Streep gives the character depth and layers missing in the book- so I've finally forgiven her for abandoning the boy in Kramer vs. Kramer!
