I mean, beyond all the Judith Krantz I've been quoting from memory over on Twitter. Wendy at Six Boxes of Books interviews me about the Scott O'Dell Award.

Editor Emeritus Roger Sutton was editor in chief of The Horn Book, Inc., from 1996-2021. He was previously editor of The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books and a children's and young adult librarian. He received his MA in library science from the University of Chicago in 1982 and a BA from Pitzer College in 1978.

That is a great interview-really enjoyed reading it. There has been a slight increase in historical fiction books set in the 1980s and 1990s (yikes-really?!), and I really notice the "undigested historical information thrown into a story" in these books.

Don't think that the We Were There books were THAT horrible if they inspired such rereading. I have a friend who painstakingly collected the entire series because he had such fond memories of them. I loved Little Golden Books, which also get a bad rap. If children love certain books so much, there's nothing to be gained by thinking they are horrible!
