Some of Breed's opinions, such as her implicit (or perhaps cagey) acceptance of the necessity for removal of Japanese-Americans from California for the duration of the war, look complacent in hindsight, but her account is both eye-witnessing and timely--let's pray it isn't prescient.

He was previously editor of The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books and a children's and young adult librarian. He received his MA in library science from the University of Chicago in 1982 and a BA from Pitzer College in 1978.
