Not only is this the second consecutive Carnegie Medal for Patrick Ness (a feat only achieved once before, in 1979 and 1980 by Peter Dickinson); but for the first time ever, the same book has also won the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal—sister award to the Carnegie Medal—with Jim Kay taking the prize for his haunting illustrations for A Monster Calls.

It's a wonderful book, full of such emotion that I'm not sure everyone is ready for it, but should read it anyway. It touches on so much in our lives, whether a loss or possible loss, it shows some support for those who face personal challenges. And the illustrations help soothe the imagination, which can be terrifying. Congratulatlions for both awards!Posted : Jun 15, 2012 06:29
