Elissa Gershowitz Named Editor in Chief of The Horn Book

On Monday, October 3, 2022, MSI Information Services announced the appointment of Elissa Gershowitz as the new Editor in Chief of The Horn Book, Inc

Gershowitz has served as interim EIC since January 2022, upon the semi-retirement of longtime Editor in Chief Roger Sutton (now Editor Emeritus). Her work with The Horn Book began when she started reviewing for the Horn Book Guide (now the Guide/Reviews Database) in 2001. She joined the staff as Managing Editor of the Guide in 2006, after working for several book and magazine publishers. She has since served in progressive roles, including Online Content Editor for the Horn Book, Inc., and Senior Editor of the Horn Book Magazine, before becoming Executive Editor in 2017. Her deep knowledge of the field includes a Master’s in Children's Literature from the Center for the Study of Children's Literature at Simmons University.

During her tenure as interim, Gershowitz led the creation of robust print issues, including a special issue dedicated to celebrating the Newbery Centennial; planned the Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards rollout, launching this week; and brought new ideas for the brand to the table. Gershowitz will lead The Horn Book through the next phase of its evolution. Among her first priorities will be helping to envision the celebration of The Horn Book's 100th anniversary, coming soon in 2024.

So very proud of you. Ms. Gershowitz you have a lot of talents and will continue to do a good job at The Horn Book. My mom was a combination of a school librarian and also a teacher so I know that she would love to see something like this. LJ Steele,MA Retired K12 Educator.
