Tonight at 7:00 pm, join Brookline Booksmith to celebrate new releases from two young adult novelists: Melissa Albert (The Hazel Wood) and Kristin Cashore (Jane, Unlimited).

Tomorrow, Friday, February 2nd, at 7:00 pm, acclaimed poet Nikki Giovanni will introduce her new collection A Good Cry: What We Learn from Tears and Laughter at Brookline Booksmith.

GrubStreet will offer a class on “Marketing for Writers (Whether You’re Published or Not)” with instructor Allison Pottern Hoch on Saturday, February 3rd, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. Topics covered include "press kits, social media, pitching, events, and developing marketing partnerships"; registration is $65 for GrubStreet members and $75 for nonmembers.

On Saturday the 3rd, at Porter Square Books, Lita Judge will discuss Mary's Monster: Love, Madness, and How Mary Shelley Created Frankenstein with Mackenzi Lee, author of This Monstrous Thing. The event begins at 3:00 pm.

Beginning at 6:00 pm on Saturday the 3rd, Barnes & Nobles stores nationwide will host "Harry Potter Book Night" events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The evening will include giveaways, trivia, games, and more. See details for Boston-area stores here.

Fantasy authors and friends Sarah Rees Brennan (In Other Lands), Kelly Link (Get in Trouble), and Cassandra Clare (The Dark Artifices Book Two: Lord of Shadows) will discuss their latest novels in a panel at Brookline Booksmith on Monday, February 5th, at 7:00 pm.

Angie Thomas will discuss her bestselling debut novel The Hate U Give with Robin Young, host of NPR's Here & Now, at First Parish Church on Tuesday, February 6th, at 7:30 pm. Though the event is sold out, there will be a standby line at the door. Tickets are $5 each.

The Carle Museum and partner First Book will throw their annual Friendiversary celebration at the museum on Saturday, February 10th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The day's events will include film screenings, craft and movement activities, appearances by Elephant and Piggie, a scavenger hunt, and more. Each child attendee will receive a free Mo Willems book (while supplies last; compliments of Disney Publishing Worldwide), and free bus transportation will be provided from Holyoke Mall and Greenfield courtesy of Ward Coach Lines.

Sign up for a one-on-one manuscript critique from either agent Melissa Nasson of Rubin Pfeffer Content or editor Charlotte Wenger of Page Street Publishing. The event runs from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday the 10th, with a break for brunch and a Q&A. Registration is required; fees are $65 for Loft members and $85 for nonmembers.

The Boston Network for Black Student Achievement's "Family Affair Book Club" will meet at Frugal Bookstore from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday the 10th to discuss X by Ilyasah Shabazz and Kekla Magoon. All ages are welcome to participate.

Harvard Book Store will celebrate the ALA Youth Media Awards in style with "Munchkins and Mimosas for Midwinter" beginning at 9:30 am on Monday, February 12th. $10 tickets are limited and available online only.

GrubStreet will offer a class on “How to Start a YA/Middle Grade Novel” with instructor Kelly Dalke from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Friday, February 16th. Participants will write a synopsis, outline chapters, develop characters, and draft a scene; registration is $130 for GrubStreet members and $150 for nonmembers.

Brookline Booksmith presents Tamora Pierce in conversation with author A.C. Gaughen at the Coolidge Corner Theatre on Monday, February 19th, at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $5 or free with a preorder of Pierce's new novel Tempests and Slaughter.

Susan Cooper will visit Porter Square Books to celebrate the publication of her new middle-grade fantasy novel The Boggart Fights Back on Saturday, February 24th, at 3:00 pm.

The Carle Museum will screen Richard Kane and Robert Shetterly's documentary I Know A Man…Ashley Bryan on Sunday, February 25th, at 1:00 pm. Nick Clark, founding director of The Ashley Bryan Center and The Carle, will speak about Ashley Bryan's legacy after the film. The presentation is free with museum admission.
