Welcome to Black History Month 2021! As several of the books reviewed here remind us, you can’t have American history without it. Please go see all of our BHM coverage on the website, where the indefatigable Cindy and Elissa are posting related reviews, interviews, articles, and essays every day throughout the month. It is times like these when I really miss my office, with its run of Horn Book Magazines from 1924 to the present, because there is so much more material pertinent to the history of African American literature in this country still waiting for renewed life in our electronic home. Let’s hope we get back there soon!

Editor Emeritus Roger Sutton was editor in chief of The Horn Book, Inc., from 1996-2021. He was previously editor of The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books and a children's and young adult librarian. He received his MA in library science from the University of Chicago in 1982 and a BA from Pitzer College in 1978.
