Giving up...or giving over?

I just revisited Audrey Hinsdale’s post from 2016, My own discretion advised. Audrey was thirteen when she wrote that post; she’s almost eighteen now and headed to Bryn Mawr in September, so her own discretion (and hard work and talent) seems to have served her well.

Reading her post in 2021, after a year plus of remote learning and near constant screen time for my kids, is giving me perspective. Rather than beat myself up over our devolved pandemic habits (a.k.a., my giving up), maybe my laissez-faire attitude actually helps my kids learn to trust themselves to make decisions about their free-time entertainment. Maybe?

Follow me for more silver-cloud pandemic life hacks! Or better yet, keep your eyes open for Audrey Hinsdale's next act.

I'll definitely be looking for Audrey Hinsdale. She can really write. (And if we ever meet, I plan to ask her about her grandparents' reaction to the story of Forever.)
