My boyfriend and I were on our way back to Boston after a weekend trip to Connecticut, in desperate need of something to eat (and caffeine) when I spotted a huge sign and read it aloud with delight: "Traveler FOOD and BOOKS!" How could we pass that up?
Half blast-from-the-past diner, half used bookstore, The Traveler Restaurant has a wood-paneled dining room lined with shelves from which diners are invited to take home three free books.

Half blast-from-the-past diner, half used bookstore, The Traveler Restaurant has a wood-paneled dining room lined with shelves from which diners are invited to take home three free books. (I chose
Cold Comfort Farm and a hardcover of
The Prophet from the rather eclectic collection of adult, kids, and teen books, but stopped there since my personal bookshelves are already groaning. We also had to avoid the bookstore proper downstairs.)
Road trip season is nearly upon us — what other bookish roadside attractions or eateries would you recommend to your fellow travelers?

Not road-trippy for Bostonians, but another favorite "food and books" place of mine: Tres Gatos in Jamaica Plain (http://tresgatosjp.com/). Tapas, books, and music — what more could you ask for?Posted : Jun 10, 2014 04:40
