Today we'll start with Fannie Lou Hamer. In the book Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer, Spirit of the Civil Rights Movement, author Carole Boston Weatherford and illustrator Ekua Holmes "capture civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer, from her beginnings as the youngest child of Mississippi sharecroppers, through the evolution of her political awareness, to her lasting impact on the civil rights movement." Voice of Freedom was a 2016 Caldecott Honor Book, a Sibert Honor Book, and a Boston Globe-Horn Book Nonfiction Honor Book.
