Roger did NOT talk with Sarah Pieters

...because she's not a real person. Those amazing photos are by and of Kitty Flynn, who we would NOT mess with, with that thousand-yard stare. Happy April Fools' Day!

Sarah Pieters

We were inspired for this year's joke by the work of the late Peter D. Sieruta, whose April Fools' Day pranks had bite and whose Horn Book Magazine article "Dear Clueless" is legendary.

Peter Peter D. Sieruta

You'll find a special tribute to Peter, written by his Wild Things: Acts of Mischief in Children's Literature coauthors Betsy Bird and Julie Danielson, in the upcoming May/June issue of The Horn Book Magazine: Special Issue: Humor.

And you can browse real Read Roger interviews here, including the most recent video edition featuring Peter H. Reynolds. Roger may not have talked with Sarah Pieters, but these other people are certainly more pleasant to speak with. Find previous years' Horn Book April Fools' Day jokes here.
