Sam & Dean Dig a Hole

Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen's latest, Sam & Dave Dig a Hole (Candlewick, October 2014), has been getting quite a bit of buzz (including Caldecott buzz) and has appeared on several best-of-year lists (including Horn Book's own Fanfare).

With all that talk, I can't be the only person to accidentally call it "Sam & Dean Dig a Hole." Right?

Especially given that "Sam & Dean Dig a Hole" is a major plot point in a significant number of Supernatural episodes.

Any illustrators out there want to draw me a mash-up? ;)

Ha, maybe if enough of us think of it as "Sam & Dean," we'll create another reality. ;)

Wait... It's Dave? I always thought it was Dean. Could argue that the dog is Castiel. He keeps trying to point the boys in the right direction.

Actually..... Im embarrassed to admit this, but we own this book and...... I read it to my toddlers as "Sam and Dean dig a hole". And yes, I replace every mention of "Dave" with "Dean". I only replace mentions of chocolate milk with whiskey in my head though so.... I'm still a good mom right??? ;)

Ha! I *have* called it this! I have also noted that, like Sam and Dean, Sam and Dave made a hole with perfectly straight sides in a very short amount of time.

I should add that, as I described this book to my mom over the phone, and I mentioned that the dog found a bone, my mother asked, "And then they poured salt on the bone and burned it?"
