What's so funny about the 2017 Special Issue?

It turns out: a lot!

In our May/June special issue on the subject of humor, Lisa Yee, Françoise Mouly, Eugene Yelchin, Philip Nel, Gail Carriger, Julia Marshall, and many more contributors cover what's funny and what's not (is poop funny? it depends — ha!), how to be funny, and how humor works as a narrative tool.

And since we could use a laugh right about now — even of the you-have-to-laugh-or-else-you'll-cry variety — the issue also explores how humor can help us cope (and resist) in troubled times.

Throughout the issue, funny children's book creators "honk the horn" for humor by sharing their favorite jokes and original comics. Look for those on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and our newly relaunched Instagram (yay!) in the coming weeks.
