From the Editor - January 2023

Happy 2023! January brings New Year’s resolutions and reappearing library books; this Magazine issue with gorgeous cover art by Jason Griffin and including complete BGHB speeches; our annual at-a-glance Year in Review post (coming soon!); and LibLearnX and the ALA Youth Media Awards. But first: who do you think will win the Caldecott Medal? Voting opens this Friday on Calling Caldecott for our annual mock vote for the best picture book of the year. “What can win? What will win? What should win?” We’ll know very soon!

Additionally, we are excited to introduce the MSI READS Scholarship, “dedicated to helping schools in need due to budget cuts, natural disasters, and general lack of funding.” Winners will receive a variety of resources from The Horn Book, SLJ, LJ, AKJ, and JLG. Round 1 submissions are due by 1/31/23.

As of press time, HarperCollins Union members (UAW Local 2110) continue to be on strike

From the January 2023 issue of Notes from the Horn Book.
