Baseball's Opening Day 2020

Today is Opening Day for baseball’s shortened season this year – Yankees @ Nationals (2019 World Series champs), with Dr. Anthony Fauci throwing out the first pitch!; Giants @ Dodgers.

You can read with the Nats through their Summer Reading partnership with the Prince George’s County (MD) Memorial Library System.

Baseball super-fans -- like this inquisitive young person -- should love all the behind-the-scenes info and not-often-enough-told stories compiled in Derrick Barnes's Who Got Game?: Baseball: Amazing But True Stories!, illustrated by John John Bajet. We also enjoyed Home Base: A Mother-Daughter Story by Nikki Tate, illustrated by Katie Kath (which appeared on our Mother's Day 2020 list). For more, consult Cindy's excellent opening day booklist (from 2018).

Watch the players wear a mask, take a knee*...and play ball!
